ARTCURIAN SPACE/PROJECT
Under the auspices of ARTC-URI at the Arthur Bennett Hall
Located at 22 Chapel Street, Brooklyn New York 11201
Art; a new sense of community, healthcare, creativity and entrepreneurship’

ARTISTS “Speaking for the Spirit” (The Theme)
The Artcurian Space/Project is the largest group of paintings of this size ever created  as part of a  cooperative effort  by African Diasporan Artists. Some of the murals are done by creative ICONS of the community.  The participating artists during their careers have been inspired by Afro-centered art movements and cultural ideologies from the Harlem Renaissance to now. African, African American, Caribbean and Latin American artists have formed a creative collective to art-iculate ‘a new approach to community healthcare and creative entrepreneurship, using art’. This rich creative, resource offers the opportunity for true healing, sustainable cultural and human development.

Dr. Beny Primm, the CEO of ARTC and URI with Emmett Wigglesworth and other well known community artists have designed this project to enrich the consumers of ARTC-URI and  raise the arts awareness of our community. This is the mirror that reflects us and our connection to our ancestral spirits hence the theme; “Artists; Speaking for the spirit”.

Dr. Beny Primm is a passionate art collector, renowned administrator and health services advocate. He sees this project as a way to use art for healing, education and the development of the creative skills that translates into meaningful lifestyle habits for the consumers of the 14 centers currently in operation in New York. “We all need to see ourselves in these murals we create” says Emmett Wigglesworth, artist and coordinator of the Mural Project.

Art humanizes our lives. When we are at ease, it allows us to grow and to expand our consciousness. When we are dis-eased, it heals us and puts us back on the path of ease and wellness to realize our fullest potential as human beings. This is not just art for art sake hanging on the walls of our 14 centers and in the ARTCURIAN SPACE at the Arthur Bennett Hall at 22 Chapel Street, Brooklyn. These works will eventually be in very important art collections in the world. It is the inspiration for our clients and the visions of what they can achieve while in our care as they grow to be responsible citizens and members of the greater creative community. For our ancestors and for us, art is a way of life, joy and celebration.

The mission is to blend the clinical practices with healing through the arts disciplines, allowing the consumers (clients) of the various programs to make art. Classes are conducted by mural artists in groups or with individuals. The exposure to the paintings will inspire and engage them in their daily activities. The commercial viability of the art and for the artist is extremely relevant.

This exhibition is the launch of a grand vision that will unfold in a series of creative activities, events, programs and opportunities for artists to have Corporations, Institutions, Community organizations, Museums, Colleges, Universities and private collectors acquire art. The creative merchandising of images will fulfill the ARTC-URI and the mural artists’ needs as this critical and important creative vision is manifested. This monumental, historic ‘art-healing-art’ project will continue to tell the ancestral story of how the African Diasporan spirit still moves us all.
